Chrissie, and her husband John de Rivaz, has signed up with the Cryonics Institute in the US to be cryonically preserved after being pronounced dead.
I asked Chrissie why she wanted to be frozen. “It seems I have nothing to lose! Being burned or planted in the ground to rot, certainly will never provide an opportunity of revival at some future time”.
In total the cost will be in the region of £20,000. I asked her if she was concerned that it may be money down the drain. “It sounds expensive I know, but one can easily compare the cost to smoking (even two or three a day over a lifetime) or regular evenings in the pub”.
To be able to wake up and write historical novels from 1,000 years ago, using your own experiences will be a great benefit. I wondered if Chrissie thought about it much. “I don’t waste my existing life thinking about the next … after all, it may never happen! Maybe the same would apply to leading a religious life”.

Computers, the Internet, printing services, the list is endless. I asked Chrissie what innovation for writers she would like to see when she wakes up. “For me, the pleasure of sitting at my keyboard is part of the creative process. Maybe a method of transferring thought into print (already under development with applications for disabled people) would be a possibility. The future of hard copy books is always unpredictable and already we have so many ways of accessing literature. Perhaps my greatest wish is more ethereal ... that people will always want to read and learn ... I certainly do!”
