Meridian Writing
Meridian Writing have been hosting quarterly short story
competitions since 2009 - with deadlines of 31st March (spring), 30th
June (summer), 30th September (autumn) and 31st December (winter).
Our competitions are open to new and published authors with stories in
any genre/theme and have a maximum limit of 3,000 words.
An entry fee of £5/story applies with prizes of £100, £50 and £25 plus a
firstwriter.com voucher worth £10.
We have a critique service available for competition and non-competition
stories with prices ranging from £3 to £25 - please refer to the website
for full details regarding submission requirements and critique options.

Erewash Writers' Group Open Short Story Competition 2012
Closing date: Midnight (GMT) Wednesday 27th June 2012.
Prizes: First £60, Second £30, Third £15, and a donation to a UK charity
or voluntary group
Entry fee: £3.00 for one entry or £5.00 for two. £2.50 for each
additional entry.
The competition is open to all ages. Submissions may be up to 1,500
words. Winning entrants will receive the cash prizes and can choose to
have their work published on the website. With every entry there is the
choice to nominate a UK charity or voluntary group for a donation,
currently at £25 and likely to increase. Entries may be submitted by
email, or by post. Payment to be posted. For full details please visit

Emerald Writing Workshops
This is a site for short fiction with cash prizes and a modest entry
fee. Three comps have already been judged and details of these are on
the website as well as the remaining comps for 2011.

The Wellcome Trust Book Prize

The award will be made on a yearly basis. Submissions will be permissible
for any book published between 1 October of one year and 30 September of
the next. A shortlist of six books will then be announced at The Times
Cheltenham Literature Festival in October, and a winner will be
announced at a ceremony to be held at
Wellcome
Collection in early November.
